Meetups and unconferences (barcamps) are amazing but if you don't have people around you that share the same passion its impossible to make one. We use social network sites, message boards, online groups to interact with linked-mind people but It is not enough and Web conferences mostly focus on businesses not communities.

We are the wiki of web conferences. We offer a web site  where members can find and join groups unified by a common interest where we have global web unconfereces where any member can present with their own live video streaming, using some platform like justin.tv, ustream.tv, etc.
